iPhone Duo: A Larger Workspace That Folds Away
The iPhone Duo has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display. Both support ProMotion and Always On, while the inner screen uses a nano-texture finish designed to reduce reflections and make the crease less visible. Touch ID sits in the side button.
The more consequential change is in the software. iOS introduces Split View on iPhone, allowing two apps to run side by side. Users can also open two windows of the same app and save app pairs for later. iPhone 18 Pro: More Control Over the Camera
For buyers who prefer a conventional phone, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max focus on photography, sustained performance, and battery life.
Their new 48MP Fusion Main camera has variable aperture. Six blades adjust the opening to control how much light enters and how much of a scene remains in focus. Apple’s examples include opening the aperture for low-light photography and narrowing it to keep more people sharp in group shots. New Pro controls expose settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and white balance in the Camera app.
Apple also introduced Apple Reference Image. In Reference mode, the camera captures signed sensor data that Private Cloud Compute develops into an unalterable reference image. Users can compare it with the main photograph to see whether edits were made. That could be valuable for documenting what the camera captured, although it does not establish the truth of the wider scene or its context.
Inside, A20 Pro uses a 2-nanometer process, paired with a redesigned vapor chamber. Apple claims up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the previous generation. Its battery figures reach up to 36 hours of video playback for the Pro and 45 hours for the Pro Max on eSIM-only models; those are playback measurements, not promises of equivalent everyday use.
U.S. prices start at $1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for Pro Max, both with 256GB of storage. Initial availability began September 18.
Apple Watch: Turning More Measurements into Useful Guidance
Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 share the new Health Sensing System and S11 chip. More frequent heart rate and heart rate variability measurements support a new readiness score intended to help users understand their capacity for activity.
The practical question is whether those measurements make training and recovery decisions easier. A readiness score can provide another signal to consider alongside how someone feels; it is not a medical diagnosis.
Ultra 4 adds endurance for longer outings. Apple rates it for up to 50 hours of everyday use, or up to 84 hours in Low Power Mode. Series 12 starts at $399, while Ultra 4 starts at $799. Both became available on September 18.
Some related features have a later timetable. Apple says the redesigned iPhone Health app, including its Longevity tab and Health Age feature, and new Audio Intelligence features will arrive later this year.
AirPods 5: Noise Cancellation at a Lower Entry Price
AirPods 5 bring active noise cancellation to the $129 model. Apple claims they remove up to 50 percent more external noise than AirPods 4 with ANC, using a new acoustic architecture and updated computational audio.
A $149 version with a Wireless Charging Case adds longer battery life and on-stem volume control. Both retain an open-ear design, making them especially relevant to listeners who prefer earbuds without silicone tips.
Siri AI and Live Translation extend their usefulness when paired with compatible devices, though language, region, and software requirements apply. Both versions went on sale September 18.
